What is NIC Card? A LAN Card

A Network interface card also known as a NIC card, is networking device that connects a computer to a network. NIC card allow to transfer data over the internet form one device to another. Most modern computers has inbuilt internal network interface controller in the motherboard. NIC card has port that is called Ethernet port or RJ45 jack. we can can connect to the network via an Ethernet cable, usb, or wirelessly.

There are two types of LAN cards

1. Integrated LAN(in motherboard) card - Integrated LAN card is built in motherboard. In case of laptop is may be wireless or wired (RJ45 jack). Integrated NIC card port you can find on backside of your computer.

2. Dedicated LAN card(External LAN card) - Dedicated LAN card are generally used for connecting multiple devices to a network. To connecting multiple device in a network we have to multiple RJ45 jack or Ethernet port. For installing NIC card in computer, motherboard must have expansion slot or PCI slot.
